Senior HSE Design Specialist – Freelance – UK or Denmark

Location: UK or Denmark

Availability: Full-time
Start Date: June 2025
Contract Duration: 12 months

Our client is looking for a Senior HSE Design Specialist to support the rollout of a new Engineering Design Risk Management process. The specialist will deliver training on Design Risk Assessment tools and Safety by Design principles, while providing strategic and hands-on support across engineering scopes for wind farm projects.

Key Responsibilities:

* Train internal teams and suppliers in Safety by Design tools, principles, and templates
* Provide QHSE subject matter expertise across project phases (development, asset, operations)
* Contribute to technical reports, assessments, and engineering documentation
* Define and maintain HSE technical requirements for contracts
* Support supplier negotiations and participate in design reviews and workshops (HAZID/HAZOP, FMEA, FAIs)
* Deliver qualitative and quantitative input to design risk assessments and safety documentation
* Assess design compliance (e.g. Machinery Directive), retrofit feasibility, and residual risks
* Participate in product walkdowns, inspections, and HSE maturity and compliance assessments
* Lead lessons learned capture and knowledge transfer into future engineering scopes
* Serve as a QHSE design lead in innovation projects

Skills & Experience:

* Relevant technical education (e.g., Process Safety Engineer or Design/Product Engineer)
* Minimum 5 years of practical experience in wind or oil & gas sectors
* Strong command of design risk management tools (e.g., bow-tie, event-tree, decision logs)
* Deep knowledge of safety design principles, international standards, and regulations
* Practical experience in Safety by Design methodologies
* Excellent communication, training, and stakeholder engagement skills
* Fluent in English, both spoken and written
* Solution-oriented team player and QHSE role model
* Ability to travel up to 5 days/month between UK and Denmark
